Rethinking Waste in Humanitarian Aid – EU Researcher article
Bio4HUMAN has been published in the Winter 2025 issue of EU Researcher, a leading open-access publication showcasing cutting-edge European research and innovation across disciplines.
Our article explores how humanitarian response, while life-saving, generates significant solid waste — and how Bio4HUMAN is addressing this overlooked challenge by assessing bio-based packaging, organic waste treatments and other circular solutions for real-world humanitarian settings.
Drawing on fieldwork in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan, the feature highlights our community-centred approach, life cycle assessments, and policy recommendations aimed at making sustainable waste management practical, affordable and scalable for humanitarian operations.
We’re proud to spotlight this work on a Europe-wide platform, alongside other innovative projects and initiatives!
