Bio4HUMAN’s Third Project Consortium Meeting

The Bio4HUMAN Consortium Gathered in Kielce, Poland, for the Third Consortium Meeting of The Project

9-10th April 2025, Kielce, Poland – The Horizon Europe project Bio4HUMAN held its third consortium meeting at the near-midway point of the project and focused on reviewing the project’s progress and planning next steps.

The meeting was held at the Targi Kielce exhibition and congress centre, as part of the 25th Environmental Protection and Waste Management Expo EKOTECH fair (https://www.targikielce.pl/en/ekotech).

Bio4HUMAN also participated in the EKOTECH fair as an exhibitor, and manned a stand at the fair, complete with project materials and information, which facilitated networking opportunities with interested industry stakeholders. Furthermore, the consortium also visited other stands at the fair and exchanged materials with them.

As part of the EKOTECH fair, Tadeusz Pęczek, a PRO CIVIS partner representative, presented the “Bio Technologies in Humanitarian Actions: The Bio4HUMAN project as an Example” at the EKOTECH main conference, garnering further project exposure. Ludwika Klejnowska, a Polish Humanitarian Action partner representative, also led a presentation on waste management in urban humanitarian settings at the Congress on Urban Greenery, Water and Air at the fair.

Now entering its 16th month of implementation, the Bio4HUMAN has already reached several key milestones, including the completion of the assessment of humanitarian sector needs, and the conclusion of the scoping exercise. This scoping resulted in a list of 27 innovative bio-based solutions relevant to solid waste management in the humanitarian sector.

What’s Next for Bio4HUMAN?

  • Life cycle assessments of scoped solutions are commencing. Following that, the next phase involves developing inventories of bio-based solutions based on the results of the lifecycle assessment. These inventories will replace selected kit items, packaging materials, or even redesign end-of-life strategies.
  • The Bio4HUMAN consortium will attend the following events this year:
    • AidEX Nairobi – June 11-12, 2025, Nairobi
    • Biennial Meeting of the Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry – June 30-July 3, 2025, Bilbao
    • ECCE-ECAB 2025 – September 8-10, 2025, Lisbon
    • LCM 2025 – September 9-12, 2025, Palermo
